Emergence
A poem about claiming liberation in an oppressive world
I haven’t posted a poem in a while, but I’ve been feeling this poem’s energy lately. Enjoy this reflection on liberation coming into being. It’s happening right now.
Emergence
It is the job of the caterpillar
to resist the emergence of the butterfly
It is the function of the old
to resist the emergence of the new
This insures that newness is
embued
with adequate strength
by the process itself
And while we may find this
inspiring in metaphor,
we can also hold in our hearts
that it is challenging
to be ripped apart
by what is coming into being
And it is challenging
to come into being
by claiming a place for oneself
that we wrestle away
from those inhabiting it
