Rest is how we connect to Life’s gentleness.
Rest is one of the Liberatory Practices that nourishes our Aliveness. If we have not yet learned to rest, we may fear getting left behind. What if we don’t get to ____? What if we don’t keep an eye on ____? But how fortunate we will be to learn that we do not have to carry ourselves! Life will carry us forward, and carry us past any consequences.
Give life that opportunity.
Life will carry us, and all of life, forward. But only if we let go of the obsession to control how life plays out.
Rest requires a trust in Aliveness. Or at least the willingness to let our fear be proved wrong. For many of us, the physiological/ chemical impacts of chronic stress drive our workaholism, leading to an inability to slow down and rest. We may need both emotional and physiological support to learn to rest.
If you panic when you try to rest, you may benefit from practices that re-train your stress-adapted nervous system.
