Intro / Confession
I feel embarrassed to say that I’m struggling to take my own advice. This rallying cry to liberation ends with an invitation to dream. This invitation is for me, too. I feel uncomfortable and unsure. I’ll be on retreat next week becoming more powerful, so I probably won’t post but I promise to do the assignment 😁 I promise to hold up my portion of this liberation work 🙌🏾💗
Deep in your bones, your body knows how to live in peace.
Your mind doesn’t know because your mind only remembers what you have lived since your brain has been alive, and what you’ve been taught about life since humanity has been colonized. It’s your body that carries the wisdom of your ancestry from before colonization.
Your body holds the cheat codes to liberation.
The key is dreaming through the body.
You’ll use your mind to do this, but your mind won’t be in control. A colonized mind doesn’t like to admit it is not in control so it may resist your body’s attempts to lead you to liberation. Your mind will tell you this is silly. This is pointless. This is stupid. This is embarrassing.
The this that your your brain is resisting is your liberation - and the liberation of the planet from the toxic knowingness of oppression spread through colonialism and imperialism.
What if freedom lies in knowing less? What if this world of horrors could become safer as we stop knowing that freedom is impossible, life is hard, and humans are evil?
What if you could become a stranger to yourself? Most of what you know about yourself makes you hate yourself.
What if life could become a stranger to you? Most of what you know about life on this planet makes you hate the rest of humanity.
What new opportunities and possibilities could become available to you if you didn’t know so goddamn much?
So let’s dream for a moment. Let’s be open to not knowing and see what newness arises. Let’s find the bliss that is available through ignorance. Not in a low- vibrational, dangerous, unaccountable way, but in a high-vibrational, limitless potential, expansive creativity to create a carnival of delights, sort of way.
Let’s dream a world beyond oppression so we can create one.
Human beings create through dreaming.
My dad‘s friends are architects. They live in a home that was once their dream. By imagining what could be, we can create dreams so clear that we can share our dreams with others, and collaborate to turn them into realities. If we want a world beyond the current reality of oppression, it will start with a dream.
You’re more likely to get where you’re going if you know where you’re going.
Often, the reason we don’t dream of the world we want is grief. Holding a beautiful vision of liberation in a world that is brutally contrary to the dream is so painful that we give up dreaming or refuse to even begin.
But we are the brave ones here. We will dream and share bold and exquisite dreams that create a felt-sense of liberation in the bodies of the people we share with. This tangible feeling will help guide us all along the pathway to liberation. We will know when life feels like the dream or when life feels like the familiar bullshit of oppression.
So here’s the assignment,
be open to dreaming this week. And maybe be open to it being easy, too. You don’t have to sit down and force yourself to produce. Be open to the dreams floating into your mind in boring, unimpressive moments, like pooping, cooking, or driving. You never know where inspiration might strike.
But please, if you would, share your dream with someone.
I would be honored and delighted to receive your dreams if you want to share them with me. You can comment on the Substack app or respond to this email. Or, tell anyone you’d feel comfortable sharing with.
Don’t be stingy with your dreams of liberation.
Together, we will crowd-source a robust felt-sense of the dream of liberation. Our bodies will become powerfully accurate barometers for liberation, moving us toward what feels like the dream, away from the familiar bullshit.
Let’s dream…
